WewouldliketostressthatthisdecisionsendsthewrongmessageaboutrenewablesatacriticaltimefortheindustryandforeffortsbyGermanyandthegreaterEUtoachieveourfutureenergygoals.NoonebelievesthatPVsupportschemesshouldlastforever–notevenformuchlonger–andeveryoneknowsthattheseneedtobesmart,sustainableandproperlyadaptedtochangingmarketconditions.However,thisdoesnotmeanthattheyshouldbereducedallofasuddenandtounsustainablelevels.
Germany’s“Energiewende”isacommitmenttoafuturepoweredbyrenewableenergyandinspiresnotonlyEuropebutalsomanyotherregionsintheworld.ThiscanbecomearealGermansuccessstory.Itestablishesrenewablesasthepillarofyournationalenergysupplyintheverynearfuture.likemanyrenewableenergyassociationsfromaroundtheglobe,weapplaudGermanyforitscourage,foresight,andleadershipinengagingintotheEnergiewende.
However,wealsoexpressourdeepconcernaboutyourGovernment’sdecisiontomakesoharshofacutinthefeed-intariffatthistime.
Inrecentyears,gradualandmeasuredreductionsofsupportschemeshavehelpedshrinksignificantlythecompetitivenessgapbetweenPVandconventionalelectricitysources.Unfortunately,theGovernment’snewproposalriskscreatinganunreliableregulatoryclimatethreateningnotonlytheentirePVindustrybutalsorenewablesinvestors’confidenceinyourowncountry.
AllpotentialinvestorsinPV,fromordinarycitizenstosmallandmediumsizedcompaniesaswellaslargerinvestors,needassurancewhentheycommittoaclean,sustainable,andsecureenergysourceandthattheywillnotbetakenonanincentive-levelroller-coasterride.
ThanksalsotostrongGermanpoliciesinrecentyears,PVhassignificantlydrivendownitsunitcosts,therebygainingatangiblemarketshareandpavingthewaytobecomingamainstreampartoftheenergymix.WithsolarPVgettingeverclosertoaleveloftruecostcompetitivenesscomparedtoallconventionalsourcesofpowergeneration,wenowneedpoliciesthatmaintainthismomentuminordertoreachthatgoalsoon.
TogetherwithourGermanpartnerassociation,weareatyourdisposaltohighlightdifferent,cost-efficientandsustainablesolutionswhichwouldallowusnottolosethemomentumofthispromisingtechnologyanditsimportanceforresearchanddevelopment,investmentandjobcreationinEurope.
